Music Editorial: 10/10 Recommendations

I’m going to try to post recommendations of albums I give a 10/10. Not necessarily bands I have in stock; just things I really dig and feel would make a music fan’s day.

Las Nubes - SMVT

A really sick little band out of Miami that I never get tired of hearing. Ale’s vocals and stories being told are unique and the music is catchy pop with an alternative edge. They recently put out a live tape that includes a version of a Stooges classic with Iggy Pop on vocals. But back to SMVT- if you haven’t heard it- I’m no reviewer- I just can’t recommend it highly enough.

Impulsive Hearts - Cry All The Time

Danielle Sines of Impulsive Hearts crafts incredible pop songs draped in surf and garage tones. This album epitomizes this band and only hints at their potential. Check out “Alien” and let the chorus hypnotize you into believing.

Slump - Flashbacks From Black Dust Country

There is such heaviness here, yet lots of psychedelia and distortion and the songs are fucking killer. The track on this is just fucking incredible. I can’t wait to see what this band does next.

Van Halen - A Different Kind Of Truth

Okay, so this might not be a 10/10 but it’s at least an 8. The brothers Van Halen brought DLR back into the mix in 2007; fired Michael Anthony and hired a then-15 year old bassist named Wolfgang Van Halen; and in 2012 put out this absolutely killer and underrated record with Roth back on vocals. Many of the tracks are revamped outtakes from the old days but some of this stuff was modern EVH at his finest. The middle of this record is the heaviest bit of music this band ever did. This is not Van Hagar yet without Michael Anthony on bass and vocals it feels like yet another era of this band- and it was. Skip track 1 if you need to. The rest is solid.
